Death Threats to Colombian trade unionists

Three leaders of the National Union of Food workers (SINALTRAINAL) have been threatened with death by army backed paramilitaries.

Javier Correa (president) , Jose Domingo Florez and Luis Eduardo Garcia , their families, and other members of SINALTRAINAL are in grave danger.

Colombia is the most dangerous country in the world for trade unionists and the paramilitaries invariably carry out their threats!

In recent years , members of SINALTRAINAL have been involved in a number of labour disputes, particularly with Coca Cola, who the union allege have used para-militaries in the past to attack the union (there are 9 known cases of Coca Cola union activists being murdered by paramilitaries). In particular midlands members may remember Luis who visited the region in 2004 and spoke of the Union led boycott of Coca Cola.
