Until February 2008, Dina Meza worked for the ASJ, a Christian organisation based in Honduras whose work focuses on improving access to justice for all sectors of society. Dina worked as the Project Director of ASJ’s online magazine, www.revistazo.com.
On 4 July 2007, Dina Meza received AI UK's 'Special Award for Human Rights Journalism Under Threat' for her work on revistazo.com. Members of ASJ started to receive threats after they began working on alleged labour rights violations committed by private security companies.
In December 2006 Dionisio Díaz García, a lawyer working for the ASJ, was killed. Dina and Dionisio were followed in the days before Dionisio’s killing, and Dina was the subject of various acts of intimidation in the months leading up to December 2006.
Dina Meza is closely connected with the case of Dionisio Díaz García, despite no longer working for ASJ, and Amnesty International is calling for her to receive adequate and effective protection, particularly during the investigation and trial of two men accused of Dionisio’s murder.
